The next INVOC orienteering event is being held at Craig Phadrig. Courses from Yellow to Green in forest overlooking Inverness. Parking is on residential streets on or near Balnafettack Crescent which should have ample space - please park considerately.

Choose your course from Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Green to compete in this popular forest on the west side of Inverness. Mixed woodland on fairly steep slopes, with a lot of rock features but also a dense path network means there’s something for all technical levels. On the top of the hill are the remains of the fort of Pictish King Brude

There will be no registration on the day so all maps and hired dibbers will be collected from the start up the short path from Balnafettack Crescent (approx OS Grid Ref: NH 64353 45651 or W3W lame.scare.cars) – the route will be signed / taped from the road. Download will be in a tent in the adjacent grassy field and any pre start enquiries can also be directed there.

Starts will be open from 11:00 to 12:30, it will be a punching start with Courses closing at 14:00.

Please remember to follow social distancing guidelines, and follow any instructions given by the start marshall.  Maps and hired dibbers will be collected at the start.

Safety

A risk assessment will be carried out and available for inspection at registration.

Waterproofs may be compulsory depending on the weather. This will be advised on the day. Please bring a waterproof with you in case it is required.

There will be a First Aid point at the download tent.

Please note any relevant medical conditions on your SI entry, or email the organiser.

Craig Phadrig is popular with dog walkers and local families using various parts of the forest notably at the south end near the forest car parks. Please show courtesy to all and provide space when you pass, particularly in view of the fact COVID 19 is still with us.

Crags – there are a number of generally small crags scattered around the area most notably immediately south of the summit or at the north end of the forest.

Ticks are present – please check for ticks after you have been orienteering.

COVID19 issues: There will be no entry on the day - pre-entry online only. Entries will close at 23:00hrs on Wednesday 2nd February 2022.

Download

It is essential that everyone returns to download even if you have not completed your course. This is so that we know you are back safely and don’t send out a search party.
