NAV4 Lakes in A Day Recce - Caldbeck to Threlkeld
Once again, Joe Faulkner and his NAV4 team will be hosting these recce days on behalf of Durty Events.
This is your chance to recce a section of the route in the company of other LiAD participants and with experienced NAV4 tutors / LiAD guides.
This is the third recce of the series, covering the large section from Threlkeld to Ambleside. Total distance is around 18 miles with about 7000'feet of ascent. It covers the whole Helvellyn range from Clough Head and Great Dodd to Helvellyn, down to the crucial cut-off at Grisedale Hause. You just need to be efficient rather than fast to make this, which will set you up for a steady ascent of Fairfield. Leaving the Fairfield summit in the right direction (a well known navigation blackspot) and nailing the long steady runnable descent to Ambleside is key to a good secon half of LiAD.
The day will include lots of information about the event, suitable clothing gear and shoe choices, what to eat and drink, navigation and route advice, event strategy and training methods.
Transport is provided before each recce from the finish point to the start. Transport will Ambleside at 8:00am, with the recce starting around 9am. Exact meeting places and other details to be confirmed in your 'Final Info' email sent the week before.
Places limited to 28 people.
I will also be running some 'Blencathra-Halls Fell Ridge' half day sessions focusing on safe and efficient movement on this technical ridge. Dates to be released soon, via the NAV4 Adventure facebook page, or email me directly - firstname.lastname@example.org
