Does your young person like the outdoors, being active, and enjoy a bit of a challenge? This Come-and-Try-it orienteering course could be right up their street!
Orienteering is an activity where participants are given a map with control sites marked, and the challenge is to navigate to each control where an orange flag will be located. It can add a fun caveat and a new purpose to going to the woods!
The same course will be offered twice, on repeat, for two separate groups. Choose one block, A or B, the dates that suit you best. The course will run on these dates:
This course is suitable for young people aged 8-16 and the group size is limited to 12. There are three sessions of one hour duration on three separate days. We are asking people to book all three dates together to build a basic skill level as each session will continue from the previous session. We are not taking bookings for individual sessions. The sessions are at Calaismuir Wood, Duloch, Dunfermline, Fife, next to the Leisure Centre KY11 8LW.
The sessions will equip the participants with basic orienteering skills able to complete an intermediate orienteering course and to continue with orienteering, if they wish. A further progression course is likely to be offered at another woodland in Dunfermline later on, in June 2022.
At the end of the sessions participants will be able to mark their achievement at our local orienteering event at Duloch on 30th April (small entry fee applies). All friends and families are welcome at the event to try orienteering as a newcomer or to watch your young person arrive triumphantly at the finish!
Further details will be sent out by email, once the course is confirmed.
