Ultra: £66 / £68 unattached Marathon: £46 / £48 unattached |
Saturday 10th September 2022 will see Ellesmere host the third running of the Shropshire Way Ultra, and this time adding the Shropshire Way Marathon for those runners looking for a shorter distance, but with all the spectacular hills from the Ultra!
Rated 'Difficult' by our previous runners, this race is not to be underestimated. The majority of the elevation gain is in only 17 miles of the route, this represents the middle of the Ultra and the first half of the marathon.
The utra starts with an initial 13km loop back to the start which will have turned into the first of 6 check points, before heading along the Shropshire Union Canal, past CP2 and to the pretty town of Llanymynech which is CP3 and the start line for the marathon.
Marathon runners will gather in Ellesmere before getting on our coach to the start line in Llanymynech.
Both races then follow the same route, and runners will cross paths as they head up into the hill. Past the check point at Oswestry Racecourse and on to the highest point of the race at Selattyn Hill, the trail running is fantastic. Leaving the hills behind, runners decend to meet the Llangollen Canal at Chrik Bank where the flat canal towpath leads them to a mutual finish line in Ellesmere.
We are always looking for volunteers to help make the race possible. If you are interested, fill out the form at shropshirewayultra.run/volunteer
Races held under full UK Athletics Permit granted by the TRA (Permit Number Pending).
