LA 26 mile route with a 10 hour time limit in the beautiful,  remote and varied terrain of the Shropshire/Powys borders which can be demanding in winter. As always for the Circular, the route will remain secret until registration when you will be given a clear and accurate, route description. The route will be divided into four legs and the Route Description gives the grid reference of each “self-clip” passage control point and the three serviced checkpoints, with a reliable indication of the best line between them.  A short route may be applied if necessary.

Location: Knighton Community Centre Post Code  LD7 1DR, Grid Reference SO 289 722. There is a large public carpark by the hall for parking; payment required by meter (not included in entrance fee - currently £4 all day).

Route Information:  Distance 26 miles. Ascent 1500m.

Registration time and issue of route description: 6:45 onwards

Start Time:  A mass start at 08:00.

Safety:  Entrants will need to ensure that they are physically prepared for this challenging event and able to navigate in remote terrain. Entrants must check in at all checkpoints.  All starters including any who have retired must report in to the finish.  LDWA marshals are authorised to short route or retire anyone failing to comply with the event rules or who in their opinion is unfit to continue. Entrants must wear or carry all of the following:

  • Mug (there will be no cups at checkpoints)
  • OS Explorer sheet 201 "Knighton & Presteigne" at 1:25000
  • Walking boots or event/fell running shoes with sound well-studded soles
  • Complete body and leg covering (running shorts with tights are OK)
  • Wind and waterproof outer protection shell, comprising a jacket and over-trousers
  • Spare inner garment (such as a fleece jacket)
  • Hat and gloves
  • Survival bag
  • Emergency food and drink
  • Torch
  • Basic First Aid Kit
  • Compass and whistle
