The Beast of the Beacons 10, 20 & 40 are exciting challenges amongst some of the most spectacular, harsh but stimulating trails within the majestic Brecon Beacons National Park. Attracting runners from the elite to the beginner you will not be disappointed by this event. The event will be marked, however our pledge is to not use tape will stand. You with have added support from marshals. A generous cut off time of 8 hrs & 16hrs will ensure that you can tame the beast. The 40 mile route will be a reverse route of the 20 so if you happen to miss a view or two you will still have another chance to enjoy the amazing Beacons..

Starting from Llangynidr Village Hall, set deep in the heart of the National Park, you will follow the trail up to the reservoir before heading over the dam and taking on the first challenging climb to Waun Rydd. Following the ridge you take in some outstanding views before descending down to Blaen y glyn. Heading further to then explore some fast and less technical but beautiful forest trails before crossing the magnificent and tranquil Pontsticill reservoir, taking in some incredible views before once again hitting the hills after crossing the Dolygaer Brecon Mountain Railway track. Heading back up you climb to take in the amazing views from Bryniau Glesision, look out on the right for the ruins of the Quarry. Talybont reservoir will amazing you with incredible views of the valley whilst you descend through forest trails, technical but fast. You will be overwhelmed by the outstanding views that will follow you around this beautiful route. Red kites besides an abundance of wild life will add to the experience. The route offers everything that the trail runner love,. harsh climbs, rocky paths to soft forest trails, mud, rivers and maybe the odd surprise. It's not unheard of to still encounter snow on this event, which will only add to its charm and the challenge!
