(Maybe!) Race the Train Trail Race

This event is usually a 5½ & 14-mile trail race in Yorkshire Dales National Park, in association with the tourist & heritage Wensleydale Railway. Due to significant track repairs delayed as a result of the pandemic, Wensleydale Railway are currently unable to guarantee a train service as far as Redmire until later in the year. At the moment we can’t transport runners to Redmire, so a 5½ mile race is not currently possible, and 14 mile runners will be racing a "virtual" train. If the track works are completed in time, we will also put on the 5½ mile route, and you will all race a real train!
Circular 14 mile route, starting from Leyburn Shawl and finishing at Leyburn station (no train ride!)

‘Race the Train’ back to Leyburn station whilst taking in the stunning views (Roughly a 10 minute/mile pace to "Beat the Train")

If the train is running, spectators can purchase train tickets to travel to & from Redmire station to watch the start of the short course, or to support long course runners as they pass through. Details TBC at a later date

To guarantee a shirt, order before 6th
After 6th February a limited number of shirts may be available on a 1st come 1st served basis
- If you transfer your number to another runner, your t-shirt and size selection is also transferred. You will need to edit this if they want a different size.
- Transfers after 6th Feb will receive the original t-shirt size, as orders will have been placed with our supplier.
Trophies awarded for male and female: 1st to 3rd overall and 1st in each age group.
A small donation to SMRT is included in each runner’s entry fee.
** Please note: **
- If there is a ‘Real’ train to race, the route is NOT adjacent to the railway, and although the railway is often visible (and audible!) on the route from Redmire to Leyburn, we wish to be clear that you will not be running side by side with the train
- In an effort to be more environmentally friendly this race will be cupless: please bring your own cup or bottle
- Whilst there is remaining Covid cross-infection risk, we will only be offering fluids at feed stations. In the interest of the environment and keeping entry fees down, we will not be offering individually wrapped food items. Please be self-sufficient for food.
- A TRA permit has been approved (3935) and this event will therefore be held under UK Athletic rules
Refunds: 75% refund up until 12 weeks before the event. From 12 to 4 weeks, 50% refund. No refund within 4 weeks, although you can still transfer your number to another runner up until midnight Tues 1st March. We do not offer deferrals to other races. If you are unable to attend due to COVID contact / infection we will issue a refund minus 10% to cover credit card processing fees.
