Due to the success of the inaugural Upton Ultra in 2021, we’ve decided to do it all again in 2022!!!
The 58km route starts and finishes at Fish Meadow Farm, just over the bridge from the historic riverside town of Upton-On-Severn, Worcestershire, WR8 0PB.
The route travels north out of Fish Meadow along the River Severn and along the Severn Way, before crossing the final battlefield of the English civil war which was fought in 1651 with Oliver Cromwell’s army defeating Kings Charles II. Heading south along the Three Choirs Way the path leads to the Victorian Spa Town of Great Malvern, before ascending onto the scenic Malvern Hills and along the ridgeline - giving spectacular views of the surrounding area and reaching the highest point of 425m at the Worcestershire Beacon. The British Camp Hill Fort which is an Iron Age fort first constructed in the 2nd century BC is conquered as participants then descend onto Castlemorton, the common which in 1992 saw 20,000 revellers attend the UK's biggest ever illegal rave, and consequently resulted in the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act being passed. The route then heads east back onto the River Severn, then north along the river, completing the loop back to Fish Meadow.
The route is a mixture of established national trails, bridal ways, footpaths, riverbanks and connecting tarmac roads. Each stage offers a diverse range of environments, from open hills, grassy meadows, sprawling commons, wooded paths and expanses of flood plain.
Each leg will be clearly marked and there are three check points at 15km, 30km and 42k which will have a variety of food and drink.
The event is open to people of all levels from first timers to pros, and there will be NO cut-off times, to make sure everyone who takes part has a chance to complete the route either running or walking.
There will be free parking avaliable and camping options at the start line.
