The Black Combe Dash is a special one-off race for the 2021 English Fell Championships. It has all the features you love in the usual Black Combe race - endless springy climb, long fast descent, amazing views, sudden clag, navigational comedy - packed into a shorter route with a bit less snow and a lot more bracken.
There will be two races: the men’s race sets off at 1pm, the women’s at 3:30pm. Both are run on the same route. Registration times and details will be finalised in August but we know it will be based in a marquee in the usual Black Combe finish field.
There is plenty of parking in the usual start field for a small fee. Campers and tents are welcome, for another fee that our farmer is looking forward to collecting. Details TBC. Longer stays are possible in various established or pop-up campsites around the area.
The registration field includes an area set aside for club tents and gathering places. First come best placed, of course. The PBS van will be there and we are trying to arrange a variety of food and ice cream vans.
Please note that there is another Black Combe race on Monday 30th from the Bootle Show. Special prizes will be given for the best combined time and you are all invited to make it a long bank holiday weekend on the West Cumbrian riviera. Seriously, you should. It’s nice, and much quieter than the rest of the lakes. Bring body boards.
50% of proceeds from the race are donated to the village playgrounds.
