Scottish Athletics East District Hill running Championship

Medals are awarded as follows, U23, open, V40, V50, V60, team 3 to count. Top 3 in all categories apart from V60. Male and female.

Medals will be sent to winners after the race – due to Covid restrictions – no prize giving on the day at the race

All runners must walk, run or cycle to start from Balerno village. No car parking at the top car park beside start and finish.

This years the race is going ahead in a revised format in line with Scottish Gov and Scottish Athletics guidance.

Runners will be set-off in waves , with a gap between each wave.

It is expected that each wave will have max 30 runners - although the guidance could change before the 2-June.

The race organiser may need to implement additional restrictions on race day - given that the Covid situation and government guidance can change.

Start and finish is  2km from Balerno village ... allow an extra 20 mins if running from Balerno

You can cycle or catch the bus to Balerno, if driving by car, you must  park in the village. There are several car parks in the village.

Race entry is now £5 for everyone incl cyclists ... this includes a £2 per runner donation to ‘Friends of the Pentlands‘ charity.

Sadly no social gathering / soup / beer in the pub this year for prize giving , that will need to wait another year!

  • Race record is 41 mins - so a good target for all Vets to beat their age in minutes!!
  • Pre-enter via Si Entries
  • This year the race is the East District Hill running champs with medals / awards for category prize winners provided by Scottish Athletics
  • As the race is likely to be over-subscribed - those runners who are eligible to run in the East District championships will be given priority. You must be a current member of Scottish athletics to be eligible to win a category winner medal
  • The race is fast running on tracks and footpaths, with two climbs up the Kips.
  • The race route is not marked - please study map in advance. Carry map and compass, and full body-cover.
  • All runners must be self-sufficient and be able to look after themselves in all conditions
  • No entries on the day. ( Sorry - impact of new covid guidance)
This year the race will be run in waves of 30 runners, with different start times.
Please bring along a watch , to help to confirm accurate timing with the added complication of multiple start times in waves - I am asking all runners to time their own run - and then at the finish write their elapsed race time on their race number and hand in their number to the race organiser. The results will be cross-checked to the self-timed times - to double check final placings in each category
