ORGANISED BY LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION LONDON GROUP
This is an LDWA Anytime Challenge event and is only available to LDWA members. Entrants can do the walk on a date and time of their choosing between 1 June 2021 and 1 August 2021 inclusive, subject to the Government’s COVID-19 restrictions and guidance at the time. The event is entirely unsupported. Once entered you will within one week be emailed a link to download a route description and GPX file.
Entrants must comply with any local or national COVID rules.
Crossing the Thames from the South Bank, the 2020 route passes through six Royal Parks, starting with Victoria Tower Gardens and ending with Brompton Cemetery, and passing through Holland Park and several historic neighbourhoods along the way. It then re-crosses the Thames to wend through the parks, wooded areas, and historically and architecturally interesting districts of Battersea, Clapham, Dulwich, and Sydenham, ending with a tour of Crystal Palace Park. The route aims to strike a balance between well-known areas of the city and hidden treasures, with a few surprises thrown in.
The start point is close to Waterloo Station and the walk ends at Crystal Palace Station. There are public transport options along the route if participants feel the need to abandon the walk.
LEADERBOARD AND CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION
Entrants who complete the event can edit their entry in SiEntries and input the date completed and time taken. Remember to click NEXT, tick the disclaimers and SAVE ENTRY and then your time and current position will appear on the leaderboard.
People who post a date and time on the leaderboard will receive, by email, a personalised finisher's certificate in the form of a PDF for printing at home.
London is offering a double certificate if you complete the Capital Challenge and the Founders Challenge in 2021. All communication concerning that should be directed to email@example.com.
In addition to the route description, we recommend having access to a supplementary map such as an OS map, an A-Z, or a map on your phone.
Please note that there will be no checkpoints, food, water, or marshal support provided. We recommend beginning your walk no later than 9 am to enable finishing before dark and having access to all parks along the way, many of which close around dusk.
Participants are on their honour to complete the route and post an accurate time.
All enquiries regarding the event to Jean O’Reilly, firstname.lastname@example.org.
A proportion of participants’ fees will be donated to the LDWA’s IT fund.
Due to insurance limitations, this anytime challenge event is only available to LDWA members. No substitutions are allowed. If you would like to join the LDWA, or see what the LDWA has to offer, please go to www.ldwa.org.uk
