The 18th July 2021 will be the inaugural event for the Lower Borrowdale Skyline with a 10k trail/fell race, a 20k AL fell race with nearly 1000m of height gain and a brutal 50k Ultra with 1900m of ascent.

The fell race was due to go ahead last year but due to Covid 19 it was postponed and as a result the event has developed and grown and now we have a race for everyone!

Every participant will receive a hot drink and cake and an awesome medal on completion. Camping is available and T-shirts can also be pre-ordered. There will be hot food included for the ultra racers and others can pre-order food or buy it on the day.
We have a couple of sponsors for the event to provide support and prizes - Ultimate Direction, Icebug, Injinji, Dynafit and Voom Nutrition.

This event is being put on partly as way to raise some money for the three charities I support - CALM (mental health), The Dogs Trust and Mountain Rescue. As much money as possible with go to the charities and I will have extra buckets to collect any change you have at the registration area. I have been raising money for them as part of my Big 4 challenge which all being well I will have completed a few weeks before the event. The big 4 at 40 is to complete the Paddy Buckley, The Charlie Ramsey, The Denis Rankin and the Bob Graham, all in a week.

10k - 11am

This is a tough but achievable 10k starter fell race on good trails for the majority of the course. The course will be partially flagged but a map is required to be carried.
Required kit - full body waterproofs, hat/buff, gloves, whistle, map of the route, and compass.

20k - 10am

This is an AL fell run on typical Westmorland terrain. Although it follows a quad track almost the entire route, it is rough under foot and expect some tough ascents and great descents. There is a river crossing which has stepping stones although i would recommend just going through the water as it is usually not deep and the stepping stones can be slippery.
Required kit - full body waterproofs, hat/buff, gloves, whistle, map of the route, and compass.

Ultra - 7am

The Lower Borrowdale Skyline Ultra is most definitely a Fell Ultra. The ground is rough, the bogs are deep and the ascent packs a punch - this is not for the feint of heart but if you want a challenge, sign up and show us what you are made of!
It starts off heading towards the A6 along the ridge-line, you cross the A6 and continue on to Harrop Fell where you get a cracking view of the Lake District in all its glory. Head back towards the A6 where you join the 20k route. You will weave in and out of patches of forest where you might see some deer and eventually get to Grayrigg Common trig point before a quality descent.  You take a loop covering the fells around Carlingill, when you then swings back round to do the last few KM over easy fells to the finish.
Required kit - full body waterproofs, hat/buff, gloves, whistle, map of the route, and compass. An extra warm layer, food, min 1 litre of capacity for drink, 500ml full, emergency bivi bag, mobile phone with OS Locate app installed.
