If you have taken one of our 'Online Navigation for Ultra Runners' sessions then this is the 'practical' follow up to that session.

Course Duration: 4 hours
** If you haven't taken part in one of our online ultra nav sessions, then you will need to understand navigation to the point where you:
- Can read the contours to see major landforms
- Understand different map scales and brands
- Understand why to orientate your map & a basic knowledge of how to
- Have a basic understanding of features, footpaths and rights of way.
What will you learn?
- Understanding different Scales & Maps
- Developing contour interpretation, recognising different features
- Map Orientation - how and why
- Setting and using a bearing
- How to use the techniques of; hand-railing, collecting and catching features
- Skills to relocate yourself
How to deal with the effect of darkness and tiredness on your navigation

- Meet at the course location
- Listen to a quick overview and recap on basic techniques
- Head into the hills to learn and put the theory into practice
- Be taught a systematic approach to navigation, which will keep you on track at all times
