Half Marathon - £25 (affiliated) / £27 (unaffiliated) |
Trail running adventures that will take you away from the comfort of urban gravel tracks and into the heart of the glorious landscapes, nature and heritage that we have here in the North East of England. Something a little different and perfect for those wanting to progress from knocking out easy, fast and flat 10ks (don’t expect any personal bests here!). One of a series of explorations of Weardale and the North Pennines, this will be a showcase of what we want to achieve at Greener Miles events in partnership with the North Pennines AONB: interesting, challenging races bringing wonderful memories and held as environmentally responsibly as possible.
All races start and finish in Stanhope, a delightful market town in the Durham Dales and the perfect location to launch your trail running adventures. The race routes take in The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark: a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past and distinctive plants. The area has many distinctive geology and landscape features, significant archaeology and supports important biodiversity in a range of key habitats.

We are an eco-friendly company, and on that basis, we don’t use disposable plastic cups and don’t offer T shirts as standard – many go to waste after events. As with all of our races we will be collecting pre-loved running kit so that we can pass it all onto an up-cycling scheme which we are supporting. We are actively encouraging participants to give something back to the environment which is why your race goodies are a little bit different. We are including a packet of mixed wildflower seeds for you to plant which will encourage bees and other pollinators to visit your garden and are great for the environment.
Note on potential changes due to Coronavirus: due to the current pandemic, the event may be subject to enhanced restrictions and guidelines, such as waved starts, online race briefings etc. We will communicate these fully with you in due course. As with all of our events, should the event be cancelled due to COVID, you will be entitled to claim a refund as one of your options.
