The best of the Peak District from south to north, through tree lined vales, high moors, plateau, famous peaks and grit stone edges, in late autumn - winter season conditions. Mixed navigation challenges and adventure for racers. The route runs through the inspiring White and Dark Peak District over classic trails. Generous cut-off times. Race HQ hospitality with accommodation options.

There will be Ranger Safety Team support at HQ, road head and hill top locations.

Finishers medals and winners’ trophies.

CHOOSING YOUR CHALLENGE

For this race in the Peaks, Vales, Moors and Trails Series we have three options for you to choose from:

Option A: Stage 1 only - Saturday 19 November 2022, White Peak Trails 50km (total ascent 899m) £55.00

Option B: Stage 2 only - Sunday 20 November 2022, Dark Peak Challenge 43km (total ascent 1192m) £55.00

Option C: Stage 1 Saturday + Stage 2 Sunday - Full Peak District South & North Traverse 93km £85.00

NEW FOR 2022 - ACCOMMODATION

We're delighted to offer the following accommodation options at The Peak Centre, Edale. These are selectable at the same time as booking your race place. Please also read our race terms & conditions regarding refund policy on accommodation. As to provide this facility Ranger Ultras' have made a signifcant investment in advance of the race. There are still 'race only' places, so you're free to travel to & from home, or source your own accommodation, if the following options aren't suitable for your requirements.

Stage 1 only participants (Race fee plus):

  • Bunkroom, bedding provided. Friday 18th Nov night only. £30 for 1 nights including continental breakfast, tea & coffee. MAX 8 places
  • Floorspace sleeping, bring your sleeping bag and mat. Friday 18th Nov night only. £15 for 1 nights including continental breakfast, tea & coffee. MAX 14 places

Stage 2 only participants (race fee plus):

  • Bunkroom, bedding provided. Saturday 19th Nov night only. £30 for 1 night including continental breakfast, tea & coffee. MAX 8 places
  • Floorspace sleeping, bring your sleeping bag and mat. Saturday 19th Nov night only. £15 for 1 nights including continental breakfast, tea & coffee. MAX 14 places

Stage 1 & Stage 2 Combined participants (race fee plus):

  • Bunkroom, bedding provided. Friday 18th & Saturday 19th Nov nights. £60 for 2 nights including continental breakfast each morning, tea & coffee. MAX 30 places

19:00 - The Peak Centre, Edale. Registration, collect number, pre-race kit check and pizza, open to residential & non-residential participants. Check-in for residential participants.
22:00 - Friday Registration, Kit Check & Check-in closes.

Note: Stage 1 Only non-residential participants can also register and kit check between 06:00 and 06:40 on Saturday. 

Saturday 19 November

  • 06:00 - All Stage 1 Only residential participants to vacate rooms ('going home' bags / luggage can be stored in the hall)
  • 06:00 - Registration reopens, collect number & kit check for Stage 1 Only participants.
  • 06:45 - Registration closes. 
  • 07:00 - Transport from Edale to Race Start at Ashbourne (included)
  • 08:30 - Stage 1 start
  • 21:30 - Race cut off time at Edale

STAGE 2 ONLY PARTICIPANTS

Saturday 19 November

17:00 - The Peak Centre, Edale. Registration, collect number, pre-race kit check and pizza, open to residential & non-residential participants. Check-in for residential participants opens.
19:30 - Saturday Registration, Kit Check & Check-in closes for Stage 2 Only participants

Sunday 20 November

  • 06:00 - All participants to vacate rooms ('going home' bags / luggage can be stored in the hall)
  • 06:00 - Registration reopens, collect number, kit check for Stage 2 Only non residential participants

  • 07:00 - Transport from Edale to Race Start at Marsden (included)
  • 08:30 - Stage 2 start from Marsden
  • 21:30 - Stage 2 Edale finish cut off time

Note: There is no access to the Peak Centre after 09:00 on Sunday for runners not starting Day 2.

  • 06:00 - Registration opens - participants just need to confirm they are running again
  • 06:45 - Registration closes
  • 07:00 - Transport from Edale to Race Start at Marsden (included)

ACCOMMODATION NOTE: Other accommodation is at Edale YHA, Edale Fieldhead Campsite and local bunkhouses. Plus, there are several Edale B&Bs, The Old Nags Head and Rambler Inns. Slightly further afield there are local B&Bs, Inns and a YHA in Castleton.

PARKING NOTE: There no participant parking at The Peak Centre. All parking is in Edale village public car park. The Peak Centre is less than 5 minutes walk from the public car park. Please do not park elsewhere in the village as this causes disruption or block residents driveways. We work in Edale all year and would like to remain on good terms with residents.

THE KIT

  • Backpack
  • Waterproof jacket with hood
  • Waterproof over trousers
  • Insulating Hat and Gloves/Mitts.
  • Warm layers appropriate for the weather conditions, minimum is long sleeved fleece
  • Appropriate footwear for mountain/fell running.
  • Hard copy Ordnance Survey or Harveys type maps covering the Race Distance (White Peak: OS Explorer 1:25,000 Dark Peak: OL1 ) (note: even if your primary navigation method is mobile phone or GPS, hard copy maps must still be carried)
  • Navigation Compass (a mobile phone app or watch compass is not acceptable)
  • Head torch and spare batteries
    • Battery powered head torch with spare batteries carried.
    • Rechargeable head torch with a spare rechargeable battery
    • Rechargeable head torch with a separate power bank – the head torch must still be functional while charging.
    • Rechargeable head torch with a second back up head torch.
    • Note: A mobile phone torch does not count as a primary or back up and will fail kit check.
  • Hi viz reflective strip and/or back light to be attached to rear of rucksack.
  • Whistle
  • Emergency bivvy bag, foil or polythene survival bag. (note: foil blanket is not acceptable)
  • Sufficient fluids and hill food to sustain you for the race.
  • First aid / blister kit plus personal meds.
  • Mobile Phone (fully charged).
  • Optional: GPS
  • Optional: Walking poles
  • Optional: Unbreakable Mug (for on course checkpoints, we do not use single use disposable plastic cups) 

Notes: This is a minimum compulsory kit list, applicable to all competitors. Participants should pre-review the forecast weather conditions add such items as necessary to keep warm, dry, fed and hydrated whilst on the trail.
