A unique event offering runners a stunning route from Dorset's northern edge to the beautiful Purbeck coast.
Entry Options are:
- Ultra - 53 miles. Start on Sunday from Tenantry Farm to West Hill Farm near Chapmans Pool on the Purbeck coast.
- Saturday marathon - 26.5 miles. Tenantry Farm to Charisworth Farm
- Sunday marathon - 26.5 miles. Charisworth Farm to West Hill Farm
- Saturday & Sunday marathons. Both marathons over the two days with camping available at Charisworth Farm
Runners set off from Tenantry Farm, just south of Salisbury and head off over the rolling downland toward the sea. The journey takes them past ancient burial mounds, along the course of a Roman Road, and through a nature reserve. After passing through unspoilt villages, woodlands and crossing the river Stour you reach the midpoint, Charisworth Farm. Here camping, licenced bar and refreshments are available, as well as transit back to the start for those not wishing to stay.
Day 2 sees runners head further south, The Purbeck hills are already in view as you descend off the chalk escarpment onto lowland heath and pine forest. The journey continues to the Saxon town of Wareham, and on over heath and farmland to the famous village of Corfe Castle. Here runners pass the world famous ruins of Corfe Castle, a royalist stronghold besieged and ruined in the English Civil War. The route continues over hills and farmland, offering amazing views of Poole harbour, the Isle of Wight and steam trains making their way to Swanage. The finishing point is above Chapmans Pool, along the UNESCO World Heritage 'Jurassic Coast'.
The route offers runners the chance to see some amazing views, and enjoy mile after mile of unspoilt countryside. Each day offers around 600m of elevation, and in general the hills are moderate and will not present a problem to runners. The trails consist in the main of well maintained bridleways and tracks. Very little road work is involved, and road crossings manned. The route will be well marked, and GPX files available. Aid stations are approximately every 6 miles, and often are sited at good rendezvous points such as farm shops with parking and other facilities.
The event will appeal to hard-core ultra runners and the less competitive alike. Because of the terrain and time of year it will provide the ideal chance for a first ultra or marathon. Medals will be awarded for all, and trophies for the top 3 men and women in each race.
