October 4th sees us return to Tenantry Farm for our third trail running event. It also marks our first birthday!

The Race on the Chase has already gained a strong reputation with runners for its great trails, views and friendly atmosphere. We are now adding a full marathon to compliment the 10k and half marathon. Competitors who were hoping to run the rescheduled London Marathon now have a great opportunity to put their hard training to good use and take on our fabulous course.

All race distances follow a similar type of terrain. Undulating downland is the key feature, following ancient tracks, or droves as they are known due to their historic role as routes to market for cattle and sheep. We also use grassy field margins, shady woodland paths and the ancient turf of Martin Down nature reserve. Vertical climb for each course is M 625m, HM 329m and 10k 133m.

For those unfamiliar with the area, its trail running heaven, and was the inspiration to me to start organising running events. Our venue is very accessible, just 15 minutes south of Salisbury, but is also very rural. Runners may past through one of the many beautiful villages, but often mile upon mile of wide-open countryside stretches out before you, with unspoilt vistas for rolling fields and woodland.

Your run will take you through a landscape full of history. The race name comes from Cranborne Chase, King Johns favourite hunting ground, but earlier on It was influenced by the Romans, who built a large villa in the village of Rockbourne. Pre-dating this you see countless Bronze age burial mounds, and for a couple of miles runners in the marathon and half follow Bockerley Dike, an Iron age boundary earthwork. The whole area has been rich in Neolithic archaeology, and a huge earth mound on Marin Down gives a clue to the site of a WW2 rifle range.

Due to the Corona virus situation we have had to make many adaptations to the way we run our events. Social distancing, staggered start times, and a lack of refreshments are but some of the policies we have had to adopt to ensure safety for all our competitors and volunteers. Further details will be passed on to competitors as the event draws closer.

We ask you to give your predicted time for your race. This will help us to band runners so the minimum amount of passing takes place on the course.

The 10k will start will take place between 09.00 and 09.45, the HM between 09.45 and10.30 and the full marathon between 10.30 and 11.15. We will split each race into bands and notify you by email as to which band you are in prior to the event. We need the start to run as smoothly as possible, and also minimise the number of people waiting for the off, so its important we stick rididly to our schedule.

Every finisher will receive a beautiful medal, and the first 3 in each event (male and female) a trophy.

The event is located at tenantry Farm, Rockbourne, Fordingbridge, Hants SP6 3PB.

Anticipated start time is 09.00, but please see individual start times allocated before planning you journey.
