South London Orienteers is offering this event to replace the cancelled City of London Race. Glovers Wood is one of the few areas in the South East that remains a runnable and an enjoyable challenge in September. It is SLOW’s first post lockdown event which will operate within government and British Orienteering guidelines to ensure we do everything possible to keep competitors and volunteers safe.

PRE ENTRY ONLY. BRITISH ORIENTEERING MEMBERS ONLY. There will be two starts with a maximum of 10 competitors starting from each start in a fifteen minute period. We have restricted the number of starts by course or combinations of course in each 15 minute block. Starts will be from 10:00 to 13:00. If demand exists we will possibly open up additional start times after 13:00. ENTER EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

Glovers Wood is a compact area with a long steeply sided valley with some valley offshoots, which have many contour details. Most of the area is natural woodland and in the valley the trees are generally widely spaced. Runability is generally very good with little bracken or brambles. The area has only been used once before.

Car Parking, SIAC hire, starts and download are in the same field and the finish is 300m from the field. The map is fully updated by Charlie Turner in summer 2020 using Lidar data.

If you have a SIAC, please use it rather than an SI card to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The BROWN and BLUE courses have more than 30 controls; check your SI card can handle this – if not you will need to hire a SIAC when you pre-enter. These versions do not handle more than 30 controls: SI Card 5 (1-4,999,999) and SI Card 8 (2,000,001 – 2,999,999).

Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.
