The OEM has had to postpone the 2020 event to November 2021.  Nepal received no trekking income in the spring and the autumn season is going to be badly affected. In villages like Ghunsa, where our support team are based, many will be without income for the foreseeable future. We and the wider OEM community can do something about this.

A contribution of £15 will feed a family for 7 for 3 weeks so we have set a target of raising £1,500 to be sent to Unite for Nepal. The charitable foundation is running emergency food relief programmes for the Lower Khumbu area, where Ghunsa is located.

We are inviting you to join in the spirit of the Original Everest Marathon by donating £15 and creating your own challenge:

Over the week of 7th - 13th September, run or walk one of three distances, each based on landmarks from the OEM:

  1. 42.2 km / 26 miles - the OEM is the toughest marathon in the world, starting at an altitude of 5,200m.
  2. 21.1 km / 13.5 miles - from Pangboche to the finish at Namche Bazaar is a half marathon
  3. 8.8 km / 5 miles - Everest at 8,848m is almost 5 miles high

Complete your challenge alone, or share it with others.

Do it in a park, in woodland, on trails, on the fells or even on a road - make it as tough as you like.

This is a personal challenge event, so it's up to you to measure the distance and take care of the timing.

Posting your challenge:
You can post on the SiEntries leaderboard, with the distance you travelled, your time, the country you're from and the location of your challenge, here edit my entry

There will be so many variables in terms of height gain, terrain and weather that this isn't to be thought of as a race so much as the opportunity to challenge yourself - go and do something that stretches you and you will feel proud to have achieved.

Your challenge will be shown on the leaderboard here.

Add your Strava and social media links:
If you use Strava, you can add it to the Update My Details screen so that it is displayed next to your name in the results.  You can also add your other social media accounts.
