Virtual Great Glen Ultra Marathon 2020 (VGGUM)

Sunday 5th July 2020 – 1am

Saturday 11th July 2020 – 11pm

The challenge is to run, walk, crawl along the Great Glen Way between Corpach and Inverness passing through the CP listed below in 22hrs.

Like all virtual events, it relies on honesty from everyone just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as they can, and having some serious fun too.

For those who have not ran the route before the first 30miles to Fort Augustus are mostly flat… with the big climbs coming in the last 43miles.

You are asked to stay away from the canal as falling in the water could result in drowning if your fellow runner refuses to remove his foot from your head.

You are not encouraged not to run all 73miles in one outing but over the allocated 7days and stay local to where you live. Scotland is still closed

There will be no actual prizes but spot prizes will be dished out for the best photo taken in your Princess Seat when you reach Abriachen at 63 miles with a VGGUM goodie bag including event head wrap for all runners.

Entries in the follow categories:

  • Solo, Relay Male x 3, Relay Female x 3, Relay Mixed x 3, Open Relay Team (Max 5).

Start Date: Sunday 5th July 1am, Kilmallie Hall, Corpach.

Finish Date: Saturday 11th July 11pm Bught Park, Inverness.

Leg 1 (Corpach – Clunes – South Laggan): 20 miles completed between 1am Sunday 5th and midday Tuesday 7th July. To be recorded by 12 midday Tuesday.

Leg 2 (South Laggan – Fort Augustus – Invermoriston): 20 miles completed between midday Tuesday 7th and midday Thursday 9th July. To be recorded by 12 midday Thursday.

Leg 3 (Invermoriston – Drumnadrochit – Abricahen - Inverness): 33 miles completed between midday Thursday 9th and 11pm Saturday 11th July. To be recorded by midnight Saturday.

After you have completed a Leg, please return to SiEntries and EDIT your Entry so that you can record your time for the leg. Once the deadline for completing each leg has passed, the SiEntries Team will display your cumulative time and position on the Results webpage so you can all have fun watching each other too!

You decide your strategy according to your available time and ambitions. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your own imagination is your only guide.

SOLO RUNNERS - You will be responsible for uploading your results at the end of each leg.

RELAY TEAMS - Team Captain will be responsible for uploading the results for all team members.

Minimum age 21 on June 11th 2020 for the individual race… no age limit for relay but under 15's should be sensibly and socially chaperoned with maximum 5k stages.

Please take a few minutes to understand the virtual event and what it involves, before entering.  Running isn't cancelled, it is just adapting.

There is NO facility to upload a strava link or similar but the organising team reserve the right to ask for any data confirmation, should we spot any obvious "outlier performances😊!"

The entry fee covers goody bags/race head wrap/admin costs by the race and SiEntries in setting up the platform.

An event tee shirt will be available to purchase.
