As it currently stands, we are unable to confirm whether The Hebden 2021 event will go ahead on 16th January 2021.

The primary concern is of course the health and safety of all entrants and our volunteers. Currently, there is no certainty around us being able to hold the event and we would need a change to the current UK Government guidance to allow us to hold such a mass gathering event, allow use of the Headquarter facilities and then for us to consider whether we will have sufficient volunteers in place, without putting anybody at risk. 

On this basis, rather than open up the entry list as normal, I am opening up a pre-selection entry list on 1 August 2020, where you can enter as normal but there is no guarantee of being offered a place and no payment is required at this stage. This will ensure that we have sufficient interest to consider holding the event, allow us to communicate easily with those on the pre-selection list and keep you all fully informed of the plans.

We do however have several months before we do need to decide.

Should we then confirm that we will open up entries, which I expect to be either 1 October 2020 or 1 November 2020, I can use the pre-selection list and this will give us sufficient time to arrange the event and consider what additional costs may be incurred. Depending on this, we may need to uplift the fee from £15 to £20. I can then outline the process and timeframes for those invited to enter.

This will also avoid the need to take payments now and avoid the need for refunds later which will be a time-consuming process and incur bank charges and fees.

Routes of 22 and 15 miles, catering for both walkers and runners. The routes will be broadly consistent with previous years but may be subject to some minor changes.

Please note that this is a tough event with a substantial amount of climbing and is therefore not suitable for beginners. There is a full route description available from the website:

Mass start at 8.00am for both routes. All entrants must finish in line with stated chop times which will be in place and enforced based on 9 hours maximum time, cognisant of daylight hours in January.

£15.00 per entry inclusive of refreshments at the start and en route, meal at finish and transport for retirees. 
£5 administration fee for transfers after the transfer deadline of Friday 11 December 2020. On the day entries at £20 per entrant (payable in cash) subject to availability.

All entrants welcome but there is a limit of 450 entrants. Entries closed when limit reached and the event has sold out for the last few years. Early entry advisable.

Registration at St Michaels Church Hall, Mytholmroyd from 6.30am.
Car parking at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, Mytholmroyd HX7 5DY GR SE011259 and other locations.
Bus stops and train station are close by.

1:25000 Outdoor Leisure Map 21 - South Pennines is recommended.
Walked digital mapping on event website for use on OS maps app and Garmin devices.

Essential Items:
All entrants are advised to wear appropriate clothing for winter conditions and to carry the recommended kit. Some navigational ability is required.
Under 18 year olds must be walking with an adult.

Dogs allowed but must be on a short lead at all times while on event but not allowed in event HQ.

Transfers will be allowed up to Friday 11 December 2020. Any subsequent or late transfers will be £5 per entrant administration fee (payable on the day in cash) and no deferred entries.

There will be a waiting list and there may be a small number of on the day entries at £20 per entrant (payable on the day in cash).
