Welcome to the complex urban terrain of Raigmore which is new to orienteering. Courses will start and finish on the Inverness Campus with the medium & long courses crossing over to Raigmore estate. The short course also crosses over to Raigmore but stays off road. Special “Shortest” course where juniors can experience urban O in a virtually traffic free environment. Indoor registration with café!

Terrain / Planner’s Comments: INVOC is pleased to present a day of high quality urban orienteering on a new area. Students from the IC UHI Outdoor Pursuits course are assisting in the organisation of the event. The “Shortest” course will stay on the Inverness Campus, which is almost entirely traffic free. This presents an opportunity for suitably experienced juniors to enjoy urban orienteering without being shadowed. For juniors wanting a bit more technical challenge, the Short course includes 3 off-road controls in the Raigmore community play area before returning to the campus. Medium & Long courses will start on the campus before crossing over to Raigmore. Raigmore is mostly flat, fast running through a complex web of alleyways and intricate fencing. The whole estate is speed limited to 20mph. There are some sections of steep woodland on the Medium & Long courses, so shoes with extra grip on the sole are recommended.

Maps: Scale 1:4,000 with 2.5m contour intervals. INVOC acknowledges the generous financial assistance from the Scottish Orienteering Development Fund for the production of this new map.

Event Centre – Event centre will be in the An Lochran building on the Inverness Campus. This features a large car park, toilets, assembly, start & finish all within a 100m radius. Oh and did I mention the cafe opening especially for us? Please leave muddy footwear outside.

The Short and Shortest courses meet the British Orienteering regulations pertaining to Under 16s running unsupervised in urban terrain. Parents are of course still welcome to run with U16s. If in doubt please choose the “Shortest” course for your child as this is planned to be less technically challenging and stays within the relatively enclosed area of the Inverness Campus.
