The weekend of trail running along with navigational support is to encourage confidence and safety whilst we run on our trails. The aim is to spend time with fellow runners, to learn new skills or to enhance existing ones whilst staying in the Beautiful Bunk House of Perth y Pia at the base of the Black Mountains in Wales. Included in the weekend is a two night stay with half board. We will cater to everyone's dietary needs. This weekend can also be for runners who wish to use the accommodation to just go running whilst staying with fellow runners and being catered for. We can advise on routes and terrain specified at individual requirements.
The weekend will start on the Friday afternoon with hot drinks and cake from 4pm . A meet and greet evening will follow with a hot meal. This will give you the chance to meet our team, discuss the itinerary and to relax. We will have discussions on kit, safety and nutrition.
Breakfast will be provided the following morning, if anyone would prefer to self cater certain foods then please feel free to use the kitchen facilities. We will however try to cater to all dietary requirements. Hot and cold drinks will be available throughout the weekend.
Breakfast will be followed with a basic navigational skills training, held indoors. A map and compass will be provided. Following the session we will then head out to the hills for some practical training before returning to the house for a light lunch. You will have the choice between a beginners or intermediate navigation session. Please state this when booking. Intermediate groups may be out for a longer section where a packed lunch will be provided.
The afternoon out on the trails will be followed by hot drinks and cake on your return. We will then hold a group meeting to discuss the days events and prepare for the next days adventures. The Saturday night is yours to either relax around the fire pit and cook in-house or hit the local restaurants and sample some first class local cuisine. You are also more than welcome to head out and enjoy our trails at night - however, please be aware that you will do so at your own risk as the team will not be out with you. If you do decide to head out in the evening, please let someone know your intended route.
On Sunday, after a hearty breakfast, we'll start the day with an indoor session to build on the previous days navigation skills. We will once again hit some trails and continue to explore your new found skills and growing confidence. Lunch will be provided either as a packed one for the longer trail sessions or back at base for the shorter ones.
Sunday afternoon we will close the weekend with a hot snack and cake with endless drinks around 4pm.
Our team will consist of highly qualified trainers who will be happy to fully support all levels and advise on all safety requirement whilst out on our trails. We hope that you go home with confidence and a greater understanding of what we need to navigate ourselves in the mountains - a great skill to have. This is a weekend of understanding and learning basic skills that will give you the confidence to lead yourself around unmarked races or solo trips in the mountains. This weekend will also give you the foundations to pursue further mountain qualifications - our training team will happily advise on suitable qualified courses.
