Chamonix - the Ultra Running capital of the world. What better place to train, prepare and hone your skills?

Join Mountain Run as we take you to the epicentre of Trail Running in Europe. Get a taste of what it’s like to run on some of the most famous trails in the world.

What to expect:

Ever dreamed of running along flowing trails, high in the mountains, surrounded by glaciers and snow capped peaks?

Mountain Run has teamed up with local trail runners and International Mountain Leaders to give a true taste of what Trail Running in The Alps has to offer. We will teach you all the skills you need to know to help you feel at home on these famous trails.

Expect a long weekend packed with expert coaching, local area knowledge, nutrition tips and all the epic running photos you could ever ask for.

Who's it for? 

This long weekend is geared towards runners that want to expand their running horizons and learn some new skills in an amazing environment. We will be running along sections of the UTMB and Mont Blanc Marathon routes, and getting stuck in to all that these iconic mountain trails have to offer, but you don’t need to be an ultra runner to get the most out of this weekend.

What's included?

What's not included? 

  • Accomodation - We will be basing the weekend from La Folie Douce Hotel, Chamonix, and we highly recommend it as a place to stay. It offers both primum rooms and hostel dormitory style accommodation at reasonable prices - plus the terrace has great views of Mont Blanc. Of course, there are plenty of other options for accommodation in Chamonix for every budget and we are happy to give recommendations (
  • Travel - there are regular flights to Geneva from most major UK airports. From Geneva it is a 1hr transfer to Chamonix. We recommend Mountain Drop Offs as a reliable and reasonably priced transfer option.
  • Food - we suggest a stop at the local Super Marche
  • Travel and Medical Insurance (make sure your policy covers you for trail running up to altitudes of 2500m)

Course Program: 

Friday 10th July

  • 1400 - course welcome on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse, come ready to run! (please aim to arrive in Chamonix with enough time to get yourself settled into your accommodation before the course start)
  • 1500 - First run of the weekend. We will aim to be on the trails for around 2 hours.
  • 1700 - Short strength and conditioning session and briefing for the following days long run
  • 1800 - Free to explore Chamonix and try some of the local food and wine

Saturday 11th July

  • 0900 - Meet on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse ready to run
  • 0930 - After a discussion about the days route we will head out into the mountains for around 5 to 6 hours. There will be plenty of time for coaching, photos and a lunch stop along the way.
  • 1500 - After a long run we will head back into town, grab a cold drink and there will be time for a Q&A session on all things mountain running.
  • 2030 - Optional evening shake out run. If you still have some energy and want to stretch the legs we will go for a short run on the roads and easy trails in the Chamonix valley.

Sunday 12th July

  • 0900 - Meet on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse ready to run. We will head off straight away on our last run of the weekend. This will be a 3 to 4 hour run in a different part of the Chamonix area that you have not yet experienced.
  • 1300 - We aim to be back in town in time to wrap up the weekend and give you enough time to get showered and clean before traveling home (with sufficiently tired legs).
