This is a two-day winter Mountain Marathon. The days are short and the weather may be very wintery with snow (both lying and falling), high winds and poor visibility. All categories are a serious undertaking and competitors take part at the own risk. We recommend that competitors take part in pairs to provide some contingency in the event of an emergency, and also for social reasons, althouh it is open to Solo entries. If you do not like or feel competant to navigate on foot through mountains in cold Scottish winter weather, DO NOT ENTER.

The Event takes place in the hills and forests around the Lochnagar area. Each day will include traditional orienteering on Orienteering scale maps and open-hill Mountain Marathon navigation on maps based on OS or similar, at 1:50k.  There are three course options, Long, Medium & Short (no Score courses), and Competitors can enter either in Pairs or Solo. Due to the time of the year, overnight bags will be transported to the overnight camp, and back to the finish the next day, although competitors will still need to carry full hill gear including safety equipment for the time of year. Facilities will be provided at the overnight camp to allow for a social, convivial evening, with heating and food, compliant with Covid requirements at  the time. Car parking, Registration, Start and Finish will be in Royal Deeside, close to Crathie. Competitors must be 18 or over (16 if paired with a parent or guardian). Competitors must be suitably fit and experienced for travelling in the mountains at that time of year. We will screen for competance, and exclude anyone we feel does not have suitable experience.
