Start: 10 am Sunday 14th June

Registration: 7.30-9.30 am on Sunday 14th June

Hamsterley Forest is the largest forest in County Durham and covers 4900 square acres.

The Forest is great for trail running and enjoying the local wildlife: if you’re lucky you may spot one of the deer, big birds of prey or squirrels. The race starts and finishes at the Nest/Grove carpark which is up the forest drive from the main car park and will be well signposted and marshalled.

This is one of our Runduro races, a different concept and largely following the same format as mountain bike  enduro events. Three timed, competitive, looped stages, returning to the race HQ after each loop. Once back at the race HQ, you can rest, drink and eat and have some chill out time with other competitors and supporters as this will be in the non-competitive area. We will have a start gate at the start and end of each race route so that over the course of the day you can accumulate a total event time and get your finishing place.

The race route follows the three coloured mountain bike trails already waymarked within the forest: one of 9.2 miles-Black, one of 9.9 miles- Blue, and the biggest one of 15.6 miles which follows the red route. It is up to you whether you decide to complete them all and which order you complete them.  We will, of course, have marshals along the trails to provide support and assistance should you need it. Completing all three routes will be a challenging 34.7 mile undertaking for even the toughest trail runners. Should you decide to just do one or two of the routes then the time limits will be achievable for everyone. The entire event must be completed in 11 hours: that means you must have returned to the race HQ within that time irrespective of the number of routes you are completing. The ground will be technical and steep in places, but guaranteed to provide some exciting, adrenaline-fuelled running.

If you decide to enter as a team of 3, each member must complete one of the 3 loops, whilst your team mates enjoy some cake and a cuppa in the sunshine. Your 3 stage times will be added together and your total time gained. If you also decide to take part in one of our other Runduro events and enter the same team (same club), then you can compete in the 3 race series with other clubs and have the chance of winning the Runduro Cup for a season. The cup will be engraved with your team name and returned the following year for other team to have the chance of winning it.

We are an eco-friendly company and, on that basis, we don’t use disposable plastic cups and don’t offer plastic tech T shirts. We are actively encouraging participants to give something back to the environment, which is why your race goodies are a little bit different. We are including a packet of mixed wild flower seeds or a sapling tree for you to sow/plant, which will encourage bees and other pollinators to visit your garden and is great for the environment.

Terrain conditions – a mixture of hard-packed gravel tracks, single twisting dirt tracks and technical, steep mountain bike trails.

  • Some technical trails but still Ideal for novices and more experienced trail runners.
  • The route will be fully waymarked.
  • There will be a race HQ with toilets.
  • There are plenty of car parking spaces but, as we are a responsible race company, participants are encouraged to car share where possible.
  • There will be medical support from Rapid Reaction NE Ltd who will be on the course throughout the event.
  • Tent pitches available for teams (like Cross country)
  • Cash prizes
  • Water, fruit and nibbles will be provided at race HQ and at aid stations along the routes.
  • There will be entertainment for kids and music throughout.
  • Food and refreshments available to purchase
  • Weather – hopefully a beautiful summers day but you will be required to wear footwear and clothing appropriate for the conditions.
