Bowfell and Esk Pike from Langdale -  Exciting, technical, magical and ethereal all in one.

Come and join us on a magical and technical night run over Bowfell and Esk Pike if conditions allow from Great Langdale. This is wonderful in the day, severe in the grips of winter, but combine winter and night and you get something really magical.... assuming the weather doesn't get in the way!

What to Expect

A professionally guided night run covering the route over Bowfell and Esk Pike from Great Langdale if conditions allow. This all depends on the weather and conditions and if we can't make the loop due to conditions then a back up plan will still excite!

Expect it to be dark, expect us to light up the mountains with Silva Trail Speed 3XT's, expect it to be epic, expect it to be exciting and expect it to be extreme and expect it to feel and be very wintery.

Winter mountaineering skills are helpful and not essential. Previous experience of winter mountain conditions is helpful but not required by all participants on this event.

Date: April 7th 2020

Meeting Time: 20:15

Start Time: 20:30

Meeting place: The Walkers Bar, The Old Dungeon Ghyll, Great Langdale, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 9JY, UK.

Parking is available in pay & display NT Carpark at the Old Dungeon Ghyll.

  • 20:15 - Meet and greet
  • 20:30 - Setting off from Old Dungeon Ghyll.
  • 23:30 to 00:30 - Arrive back Old Dungeon Ghyll
  • Go to the pub to warm up in front of the fire and enjoy a pint!

Route: Set off from ODG, heading out of the Langdale valley via The Band and summit Bowfell. Then onto Esk Pike next, dropping to Esk Hause and looping back round into Great Langdale. Depending on the group and weather conditions we might extend the route and carry on over Rossett Pike, Mart Crag Moor and then back to the Old DG and our cars.

Bad Weather Route: Setting off from the Old DG, we'll head down the valley heading South East and start an ascent of Lingmoor Fell via Baybrown Campsite, summiting on Brown How. We'll then run the ridge and possibly extend the route to take in the Pike O Blisco, but this is time dependant. We'll arrive back at the Old DG and our cars by 00:30.
