Fairfield Horseshoe Night Run - Classic, uplifting, magical and ethereal all in one.

Come and join us on a magical and highly enjoyable night run around Fairfield Horseshoe. Its a Lakeland classic by day, can be severe in the grips of winter, but combine winter and night and you get something really magical.... assuming the weather doesn't get in the way!

What to Expect

A professionally guided night run around Fairfield Horseshoe. This all depends on the weather and conditions, but if we can't make the loop due to conditions then the back up plan will still excite!

Expect it to be dark, expect us to light up the mountains with Silva Trail Speed 3XT's, expect it to be epic, expect it to be exciting and expect it to be extreme and expect it to feel and be very wintery.

Previous experience of winter mountain conditions is helpful for all participants on this event.

Who is it for?

Any runner who has dreamed of spicing their 'running life' up a little and heading out into the mountains to have some extreme fun (safely we hasten to add).

Trail runners, Ultra runners, Mountain/Fell runners and Sky runners are all welcome. Road runner? No worries, we'll look after you all the same. Don't forget, we're all in one happy family.

**You will need to have had some experience of running at night, some experience of running over technical terrain and some experience of running in foul weather conditions and some experience of running in the snow.

[If you have any queries or questions... just give us a call before you book.]

Guided Run Program

Date: February 9th 2020

Meeting Time: 18:15

Start Time: 18:30

Meeting place: University of Cumbria, Ambleside.

  • 18:15 - Meet and greet.
  • 18:30 - Setting off from University of Cumbria, Ambleside Campus
  • 21:30 to 22:30 - Arrive back in Ambleside
  • Go to the pub to warm up and enjoy a pint

Route: Set off from University of Cumbria, Ambleside Campus and run up Nooks Lane, traverse the low path to Rydal Hall and then start the ascent to Nab Scar from there. This wide ridge leads to the summit of Fairfield via Heron Pike and Great Rigg. Once summited, we will then head onto Hart Crag and Dove Crag, before making the awesome and long descent via High and Low Pike back to the street of Ambleside and a quick drink in a local pub [Golden Rule most likely]

Bad Weather Route: Set off from Cumbria University, Ambleside Campus and run into the village of Ambleside and up Stockghyll Lane to start the ascent of Wansfell. Taking in both Wansfell Pike and Wansfell, we'll drop across the open fell on the east-side to Hundreds Lane and then back over Wansfell Pike to make one of the best descents in the Lakes, dropping from the summit into Skelghyll Woods and back to the street of Ambleside and that warm pub and pint we've all been waiting for.
