Alwinton Three Tops Fell Race, 11:00 start. BL 24km 750 m climb
This will be the fith running of the Alwinton 3 Tops Fell Race.The 24 km scenic route in the Cheviots gives tremendous views over the Cheviots, Windy Gyle and glimpses over the border ridge into Scotland (weather permitting). This challenging route is fairly runnable with the odd steep climb to give one a chance to admire the scenery. The event is well marshalled by the North of Tyne Rescue Team and there are 7 checkpoints, some providing refreshments. It starts in Alwinton at 11:00, goes up Clennell Street and across to Kidland Dene, then a steady climb up the Dodd to " Wether Cairn" (1st Top - 563m).The route will be flagged to Wether Cairn There is a chance to recover before the climb onto " Cushat Law" (2nd Top - 615m), a "claggy" level bit before the climb onto" Bloodybush Edge" (3rd Top - 610m). The site of a border fracas between the "auld enemies!"), a flagged recovery stretch and then into Kidland forest, down the forest track to Nettlehope, back onto Clennell Street. Then the run for home down to Wholehope and the last easy stretch back to Alwinton. Good training for the "Chevy Chase".
Most of the route is on open fell and basically follows the boundary fence edge around Kidland forest.

11:00 start.The race is under FRA rules and runners must follow FRA guidance on running equipment. Even in June the Cheviots can be very inhospitable! Prize allocation will reflect entries in each age group. Refreshments will be available en-route and at the finish. A map of the courses will be on the Alwinton Three Tops Fell Race Facebook page.
Kidlandlee Short Race 11:30 BS 10k 400m climb
The route is well marked to encourage less experienced fell runners.It follows the 24k course to Checkpoint 1 @ Kidlandlee dene and turns left up a steepish climb to an unmanned checkpoint 2 near Kidlandlee. The route continues up to Wholehope (ruin) checkpoint 3, and most of the hard climbing is over. The route then follows Clennell st., an ancient drove road, South to the finish at Alwinton.Running gear as per FRA guidelines + map (basic map reading skills required)

Basic camping is available,free of charge @ Rose & Thistle on the Friday & Saturday. Make a weekend of it, get the rest of the family to enter the "Alwinton Round" challenge walks taking place on the same day. 20 miles, 15 miles or the 6mile Family walk - entry via SiEntries!
If participants have to retire through injury they must inform the nearest checkpoint, so transport can be arranged back to the Rose & Thistle. All participants must report to the finish so that all runners are accounted for and no unneccessary searches are instigated.
Any profits from the race go towards funding the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team.
