A weekend course for mountain walkers, runners and adventure racers.

NAV4 Adventure are one of the countries leading Mountain Running experts. Our team is often found quietly working behind the scenes race planning, course setting, safety crewing and catering for some of the UK's biggest brands and most demanding events.
We have the experience and knowledge to help you develop your skills to a new level - enabling you to confidently and competently commit to ever more demanding challenges.

The programme is specifically designed for mountain and fell runners, ultra runners, mountain walkers, and multi-day endurance adventure races.  This course is perfect preparation for any mountain marathon such as the OMM, Dark Mountains, GL3D, LAMM, or ROC. It is equally suited to multi-day and expedition style events such as The Dragon’s Back, Cape Wrath, or ITERA.  Don’t worry though – you don’t need super speed or fitness to benefit – just a desire to travel efficiently through the mountains.

The course covers all aspects of mountain walking, running and adventure racing.  What makes the Mountain Running Essentials course different is that it is designed delivered by, mountain runners with real event experience, and professional outdoor instructional and facilitation qualifications. We don't push a 'celeb' lead agenda.   Tuition is delivered in small tutor groups with a maximum ratio of 4:1.  The course combines indoor and outdoor sessions and culminates with a mini ‘event’.

Based at Shap, in The Lake District with direct access onto the Eastern Lake District Fells. Shap is also conveniently placed for the M6 and Penrith mainline station. Accommodation is provided at the excellent New Ings Lodge and includes two nights bed and breakfast and an evening meal.  Arrive anytime from 6pm on Friday evening and settle in to New Ings. From experience we know people arrive at various times, so Friday evening is an informal social evening and a chance to meet your course fellows and tutors, relax or go for a run.  We start the course formally on Saturday morning to allow for late arrivals.

There are pubs and a great 'chippy' in the village, for Friday evening meal, plus a small Co-op for last minute snacks.  The course finishes around 3pm on Sunday, so if you have to get away early that's fine, or stay longer and glean even more info and skills.

Places are limited and our last course sold out very quickly so please don’t delay in securing your place.
