LochNess360° Challenge

A new 3 day festival of running and cycling based around iconic Loch Ness on the new LochNess360ﹾ trail developed by linking the Great Glen Way on the north side of Loch Ness with the South Loch Ness Trail, completed in 2018, on the south side.

Approximately 90% of the trail is off road on a mixture of built trail, rough tracks and forest paths. Fantastic varied scenery, particularly on the South Loch Ness trail with superb views down on to Loch Ness.

The event offers participants the choice of:

  • Running Three Marathons over three days around the whole of Loch Ness starting and finishing in the village of Dores with overnight stops after each marathon, in Drumnadrochit and Fort Augustus.
  • Running only one or two of the marathons – you decide!
  • The LochNess360 Ultra Marathon – running the full 129km of the LochNess360ﹾ around the loch, start and finishing in Dores.
  • The Mountain Bike Challenge – cycling the full 129km.

The total ascent around the LochNess360ﹾ is over 3000m. Even the ‘easiest’ marathon has over 700 metres of ascent – to complete any of these events requires a high level of fitness

Mountain Bike Challenge & Gravel Challenge - 31st May 2020

For all keen mountain bikers, the Mountain Bike Challenge will start from the village of Dores early morning on the third and final day of the LochNess360ﹾ Challenge.

The route will leave the village and head towards Inverness on the South Loch Ness Trail. At Inverness it will link up to the Great Glen Way on the north side and follow the route of the trail all the way to the village of Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness. Here the route switches back on to the South Loch Ness Trail and heads steeply up hill to the Glendoe Hydro Works entrance and along the South Loch Ness Trail to Whitebridge and then continuing on the trail to the finish at Dores.
