Sussex Stride – 51 miles in 20 hours

Starting and finishing at Rottingdean and crossing some of the finest countryside in the South Downs National Park the route visits Offham, Lewes, Glynde, Alfriston, East Dean, Litlington, Norton & Southease.  Part of the KSS Triple Challenge - please see for challenge details.

Location:  Longhill School, Falmer Rd, Rottingdean, Brighton BN2 7FR.

Registration from 0900.  Car parking in the school grounds from 0830.

Start for all entrants at 1000.

Entry includes drinks & light refreshments at most CPs, showers & a meal at the finish, certificate for all in-time finishers.  A cloth badge will be on sale.

Route Description. A full route description and GPX file is now available on the Sussex Group website Please remember that all entrants must carry a printed route description on the event.


  • This event is open to walkers and runners who must be over the 18 years of age on the day of the event.
  • Membership of the LDWA is not required.
  • No entries on the day.
  • No dogs.
  • Bring your own mug.
  • The opening and closing times of the checkpoints will be strictly adhered to.
  • To qualify for a certificate entrants must pass through all the checkpoints within the time limits and finish by 0800 on 22/9/19.
  • Retirements must be made at checkpoints.  If a retiree is unable to reach a checkpoint they should pass their tally to another entrant, who will notify the next checkpoint. Alternatively, the emergency phone number provided should be used.
  • The checkpoint marshals will have the right to retire any entrant who they consider is unfit to continue.  Transport to Longhill School will be provided for retirees.
  • Maps to cover the whole route (OS Landranger 198 & 199/Explorer OL11 & OL25, formally 122/123) should be carried.
  • The weather on the South Downs can change quickly so dress accordingly.
  • Sunset time - 1900. Night navigation skills may be required.
  • Luggage may be stored in the school.
  • A sleeping area will be available in the school until noon on Sunday.

A full route description will be available from late August.  It must be carried by each entrant even if walking in a group - you may get separated – or if navigating by smart phone or GPS – your batteries might go flat.  Failure to carry a route description may mean that (a) you are not covered by the LDWA Public Liability Insurance and (b) that you will be disqualified.
