INVOC welcomes you to an evening event at Ord Hill which encompasses the first schools league event for 2019. We offer you a pleasant afteroon/evening of orienteering near Inverness with a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities including beginners.

Terrain: Ord Hill overlooks the Moray Firth just across the Kessock Bridge from Inverness. It has beautiful, open mixed forest with a fine network of paths and tracks around the tumbled remains of an Iron Age Fort.

Map: Pre-marked and printed on waterproof paper, scale 1:10,000 with 5m contour interval

Directions and Parking: There are 2 entry points for Ord Hill so please note carefully which one you should use.

Cars and small mini-buses - Schools arriving by car/minibus will be parked in the Forestry Commission car park. Grid Reference NH654488 . Respect local residents – there is a house at the end of the forest track - please do not block access.

From Inverness – just north of the Kessock bridge take the L slip road signposted N.Kessock/Drumsmittal. At the roundabout take the 3rd (Drumsmittal/Kilmuir) exit and pass under the A9. Take the next L signed Drumsmittal/Kilmuir and follow that road until you come to a converted schoolhouse “Lewis Recordings”. Take R turn here signed Kilmuir and follow this road round a sharp L bend.  50m after the bend on the right hand side is the entrance to the car park via a forest track.

Travelling southbound on the A9 take the exit signposted for Kilmuir and Drumsmittal just before the Kessock bridge and follow the directions as above.

Coaches and large mini-buses - Schools arriving by coach must park in the Highland council car park just off the A9 southbound and walk up to the starts from there.

Toilets: There are limited toilet facilities. A portaloo will be available at the higher car park. The public toilets in the lower car park are closed and not available.

Registration and Download:  These will be located close to the forestry commission car park. First Aid will be available at registration. The route to the start/registration will be signposted from the car parks.

For Schools: Please pick up your registration pack from the registration tent. Ensure each child is assigned the correct dibber. Please also ensure that the wrist cord is used as there will be a charge of £30 to replace any lost dibbers. Please ensure all dibbers are returned before leaving.

Start Location:  The start is approximately 700m from the registration (dibber/map collection) and download area.

Start time: For schools this will be between 3.30pm and 5pm, so all school groups should have completed their courses by 5:45pm at the latest. Courses close promptly 7.15pm. Starts will remain open for non-school competitors until 6:15pm.

Punching Sportident.  Start times will not be pre-allocated, turn up when you are ready and the start official will let you start when there is space on your course. There may be short delays at popular times. Non-school competitors please note the start times for schools when it will be particularly busy.

Finish: All runners MUST return to download even if they have not finished their course.
