Alwinton Three Tops Fell Race, 10:30 start. BL 24km 750 m climb

This will be the fourth running of the Alwinton 3 Tops Fell Race. The 24 km scenic route in the Cheviots gives tremendous views of the Cheviot, Windy Gyle and glimpses over the border ridge into Scotland (weather permitting).  This challenging route is fairly runnable with the odd steep climb to give one a chance to admire the scenery.  The event is well marshalled by the North of Tyne Rescue Team and there are 7 checkpoints, some providing refreshments, the route will be well marked. It starts in Alwinton at 10.30, up Clennell Street, across to Kidland Dene, then a steady climb up the Dodd to Wether Cairn (1st Top - 563m), there is a chance to recover before the climb onto Cushat Law (2nd Top - 615m), a "claggy" level bit before the climb onto Bloodybush edge (3rd Top - 610m. The site of a border fracas between the "auld enemies!"), a recovery stretch and then into Kidland forest, down the forest track to Nettlehope, back onto Clennell Street. Then the run for home down to Wholehope and the last easy stretch back to Alwinton.  Good training for the "Chevy Chase".
Most of the route is on open fell and  basically follows the edge of Kidland forest.

Kidlandlee Short Course      10km with 400m climb

This well-marked shorter course is intended to encourage novice runners to become involved in the sport (As well as an option for those not up to the longer distance).  The race starts in Alwinton at 11:00 and follows the same route as the 3Tops up Clennell Street across and down the Racks to Kidland Dene checkpoint.  This is followed by a nice short steep climb to get the heart pumping and a more gradual pull up to Kidlandlee.  Then onwards and slightly upwards to Wholehope, watch out for the nettles!  Checkpoint & drinks.  The hard work is over, engage overdrive and coast down Clennell Street back to Alwinton and the finish!
