The Cheviots Challenge is organised to raise funds for the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team. A voluntary organisation whose members share a common interest in providing and important life saving service 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.

Our 38th Cheviots Challenge will take place on Saturday 31st August 2019 and will start and finish at the Rose and Thistle Inn, Alwinton, Northumberland.

This event is designed as a personal challenge and is not a competition. It is a demanding event requiring personal fitness, navigational skills and the ability to endure up to 12 hours ‘in the field’, hence the recommended equipment.

There is a choice of route:

'Terry Lynn' long route is approximately 23 miles long with over 3500 feet of climbing- Full route details are released on the day of the walk
'Eileen Lynn' short route is approximately 17 miles long and over 2600 feet of climbing- Full route details are released on the day of the walk

Both routes will take you through and over the beautiful Upper Coquetdale and Cheviot Hills.

On the day of the event you will receive a route card and a photocopy map giving details of the route.

The above routes may change on the advice of Northumberland National Park Senior Ranger.

Checkpoints on the route must be visited before the closing time shown on the route card. Manned checkpoints can provide first aid; one or more will provide refreshments. Participants completing the event between 0800hrs and 2000hrs will be awarded, upon production of a completed route card, a certificate and souvenir.
