In conjunction with the Llanharan Recreation Trust - on 27th April 2019 the Red Kite Trail Series will be coming to the village of Llanharan.

The Series firstly consists of starting in Spring:

-10km Trail Race
-13 mileTrail Half Marathon
-26 (ish) mile Trail Marathon.

Starting & Finishing at Llanharan Miners Welfare Hall (Race HQ) the races leave race HQ (at different start times) but head out briefly on a short run through the village before heading out onto our beautiful countryside that towers above Llanharan, Brynna & Bryncae.

It is a fully marked route with no navigation required (although you will be issued maps as part of registration for safety) and well stocked checkpoints with cheery marshals / volunteers.

The route takes in most of our beautiful trails and finishes once again back at the Llanharan Miners Welfare where you will pass through the arch to collect your Race T Shirt and Finishers medal.

Why the Red Kite? - We regularly spend our time running, biking, riding horses or trekking on the beautiful trails above our community. Apart from the natural beauty, the scenic views, the varied livestock along with fell ponies we see the Awesome Bird of Prey the Red Kite. According to experts the Red Kite is on the decline - They should come to Llanharan as they are in abundance and can be seen hovering, soaring on a thermal or swooping down on prey.

So don't be fooled by our beautiful hills. They may not be as high as the Brecon Beacons or as tough as the Mountains in the North but what they can certainly do is test you - and we will don't you worry!

Part of the route takes you over the Megalithic and mysterious Mynydd Y Gaer, which has been said it has its own micro climate.

Food will be available at the Welfare Hall along with Showers

Accomodation is available the night before if required and details available when entries go live.

It is an ideal event for the hardy & experienced Trail runner to the Novice and first timer alike.

Every one receives a finishers Medal & Technical T Shirt and there are prizes for various categories along with spot raffle prizes on each runners number.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions.
