Take your navigation skills to the next level with the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) Silver Navigator Award.

Please get in touch if you have not yet completed a NNAS Bronze or similar course before booking the Silver.

Whether you’ve already completed your Bronze Award or have equivalent navigation experience, this practical two-day course will help you become more confident navigating beyond paths and tracks using accurate map and compass techniques.

The Silver National Navigation Award develops the navigation skills acquired at the Bronze level. It adds skills required to navigate to features and places some distance from paths and tracks. It teaches accurate compass work. It will also teach you to select the suitable navigational techniques to cross open country.

Silver National Navigation Award courses are taught in areas with access to open country and involve periods where you’ll be navigating away from paths and tracks.

For the full Silver Navigator Award syllabus please see the NNAS website.

Maximum tutor to participant ratio is 1:8.

The course takes place over 2 days

About the Course:

The NNAS Silver Navigator Award is accredited by the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 5 and 2 SCQF credit points are awarded on completion.

The course is highly practical, with the majority of both days spent outdoors developing your navigation skills in real terrain. Throughout the weekend we’ll cover route planning, contour interpretation, accurate compass work, relocation techniques, navigation away from paths and tracks, and choosing the most appropriate techniques for different types of ground.

At Due North CIC we believe everyone learns differently. Courses are delivered in a relaxed, friendly environment where you can ask questions, practise at your own pace and build confidence without feeling rushed. We keep our groups small so there’s plenty of individual support throughout the weekend.

Your tutor Mel is a qualified Mountain Leader and NNAS Tutor with 10 years’ experience delivering navigation courses throughout the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. With extensive local knowledge and experience teaching people of all abilities, sessions are adapted to suit individual learning styles, helping everyone get the most from the course.
