The Lakes 3000 Ultra is a 54‑mile mountain challenge across the high fells of the Lake District. It is a route that rewards effort, focus and grit.

  • Ascent: 15,000 feet (4,500 m)
  • Time Limit: 24 hours, generous cut-offs 
  • Start/Finish: The Pencil Factory, Keswick

Starting and finishing at the iconic Pencil Factory in Keswick, you will tackle breathtaking valleys, technical ridgelines and high-fell terrain with robust support at key checkpoints.While this is a serious mountain challenge, you can navigate with absolute confidence because the entire route follows established Public Rights of Way on recognised paths, meaning you are always on clear well-trodden trails. The course is marked in sections and to fully support your navigation, you will receive an official GPX file, a waterproof map and detailed route notes to guide you from start to finish

Event Support

To support you throughout the challenge the event includes:

  • Elite Medical Cover:
    • High-Fell CQC Medics: 3 dedicated mountain medical stations positioned for rapid response in technical terrain.
    • Checkpoint Care: CQC medical support is also present at all Aid Stations.
  • Aid Stations:
    • 4 Fully Stocked Stations: Generously supplied with a variety of real food, sports nutrition and hydration to keep you fueled.
  • Live Safety Tracking:
    • Race Control Monitoring: Live GPS tracking allows our event management team to pinpoint your exact location at any second.
  • Navigation & Route Marking:
    • Partially Marked Course: Sections of the route will be physically marked.
    • Navigation Backup: Supported by your provided verified GPX file, route map and detailed route card.

To ensure everyone’s safety on the fells all participants must carry the full mandatory kit at all times. This is a safety requirement and will be checked. By entering you confirm you have read and agreed to the Runner Declaration & Event Rules, These outline the safety standards and the code of conduct, including respecting volunteers, supporting fellow runners and leaving No Trace on the trails.

Provisional 2027 Route Notice:
We are completing routine landowner permissions for the 2027 route, which is agreed in principle.

Entry Requirements

  • Age Limit: You must be at least 20 years of age on race day to enter.
  • No Formal Vetting: Entries are not formally vetted. We trust your judgment.
  • Declaration of Competence: By entering, you confirm you are physically prepared and competent to safely navigate the 54-mile mountain course with over 15,000 feet of ascent in all weather conditions.
