Coombs Wood is a small area of working forest on the NE side of the River Eden. It comprises a steep valley side, with flat areas at the top and bottom. There are many paths and tracks, including a lot of steep mountain bike tracks. The forest is mostly fairly rough underfoot with dead bracken and some brambles, but there are more runnable parts.
Parking
Parking will be on the roadside south of the small Forestry England parking area (w3w: stuffy.saves.absorb).where Enquiries/Download is located

Blue 5.4km, 250m
Green 3.5 km, 170m
Short Green 2.9 km, 115m
Very Short Green 2.4km, 90m **See note below
Orange 2.8km. 115m
Yellow/Novice 2.0km, 80m
Score 1 hour ^^See note below
**Very Short Green - this is the same course as Short Green but with some controls missed out. If you want to do Very Short Green, enter Short Green and pick up a Short Green Map at the start. The map will show which controls to miss. You can decide while on the course whether to take the Very Short Green cut-off.
^^Score - visit as many controls as you can in an hour. Suitable for newcomers who want a challenge. Some controls will be easy, other more difficult
Groups and Pairs / Extra Maps
If you are new to orienteering and would like to go round as a group or in a pair, just enter one person and use the option to select any additional maps that your group would like at £1 each.
Dibber Hire
Available by pre-order at no charge, £30 if not returned. To pre-order, leave the SI number blank during entry process, and then collect dibber from Enquiries/Download on the day.
Entry on the Day
Available on Yellow, Orange and Score courses only
Start and Finish
Start between 11:00 and 12:30. The start and finish are both within 100m of Enquiries/Download
Coaching
There will be a coaching session, open to all, before the event. If you would like to attend please tick the box on the entry form. More details will emailed to anyone who signs up, but if you have any questions contact club coach Christine via [email protected]

Dogs are allowed but must be on leads.

Entry Cancellation / Change
If you are unable to make the event please let us know via the email address. If we are informed by the closing date we will provide a refund less £1 per person to cover admin costs. Before the closing date you can change your course by editing your entry online, but there will be no changes of course on the day.
