38km of mountain terrain and 2800m ascent: Scafell Sky Race is played out on technical, single-track trails from start to finish. It’s a Lake District journey that will test the speed and endurance of experienced and aspiring mountain runners.
Scafell Sky Race was the UK National Team qualifying race for the Skyrunning World Championships 2018 & 2025 plus the short distance WMRA Qualifying Trail Race for 2025 & 2027 for the WMRA Championships in both years.

38km of technical single-track and scree make this a classic skyrunning route to be reckoned with. The circular route allows you to run from the iconic Lanty Slees Sticklebarn over and around the most iconic Lakeland/Wainwirght Fells and through Lakeland Valleys, whilst you summit England’s highest mountain on route and traverse some of the most exciting trails in the central Lake District. It truly is a route to 'live for'!
Entry requirements
For the 2027 edition of the race you must be 20 years old as of 4th June 2027 to enter the Scafell Sky Race™.
[This is due to the race becoming associated with the TRA for 2027 to host the Home Countries Trail Running Championships & Short Distance Qualifier for the WMRA Champs in SA for 2027]
Entries are NOT vetted: however, the Scafell Sky Race is much more than your average trail run and we advise you to come prepared. You will be tackling 38km of steep and technical terrain with 2800m of vertical gain in the ascent profile. You will need to be a skilled and confident mountain/trail runner to make the course cut-offs and complete the route in the set time.
By entering the race, you are attesting your competence to complete the course.
Scafell Sky Race has been part of the Skyrunning UK series since 2017.
