Terrain
This is a wonderful area for orienteering including open pasture with small limestone outcrops and hawthorn thickets with great runnability and complex, mostly deciduous woodland on limestone pavement including intricate contour detail. Within the woodland visibility and runnability varies considerably, with added interest from the often moss-covered limestone pavement This will provide a significant technical & physical challenge to experienced orienteers. There are also courses suitable for younger juniors and those developing their navigation skills.

Juniperus communis formations on heaths or calcareous grasslands for which the area is considered to support a significant presence. Old sessile oak woods with Ilex (Holly) and Blechnum (Fern) in the British Isles for which the area is considered to support a significant presence. Taxus baccata (Yew) woods of the British Isles for which this is considered to be one of the best areas in the United Kingdom.
