Open to Offas is a long-established challenge event in NE Wales, now held in August with three route options - 32 miles (52 km) - 6377 ft (1944 m) elevation, 24 miles (40 km) - 4945 ft (1507 m) elevation and 16 miles (25.5 km) - 2792 ft (851 m) elevation, all starting from Cilcain Village Hall (GR SJ176652) in Flintshire. Just inside N Wales, only 2 hours drive from Leeds or Birmingham.
Both walkers and runners are welcome.
All routes climb the Clwydian Hills to follow the Offa's Dyke Path over Moel Famau with a return via wooded countryside. The longer routes head over Moel Fenlli towards Llanarmon-yn- Ial. The views are outstanding, the terrain underfoot is excellent throughout.
Start 32 miles 08.00am 24 miles 08.30am. 16 miles 09.30am.
There will be a cut-off time of 1:30pm at Checkpoint 3 for those on the 32 mile route - anyone arriving after that time will be required to continue on an alternative route.
Entry fee includes detailed route description, refreshments at checkpoints and finish, certificate.
Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead. No dogs allowed in Cilcain Village hall.
Under 18s to be accompanied by an adult.
You will be expected to carry a map (Explorer 265 or Landranger 116) or electronic equivalent
