Primarily for walkers but open to runners.
Both long and short routes pack a punch. Challenging, mainly offroad with indistinct paths climbing to broad grassy ridges with occasional peat hags. Chance of well-earned fantastic panoramas from high above the Tweed Valley.
Punchy 27.6 miles, elevation of 5,643 ft/1,720m or 16.4 miles and elevation 2,943ft/897m. Chance of panoramic views will be well earned with climbs to broad grassy ridges high above Tweed Valley. This is a walking event with checkpoints opening times based on walking but event is open to runners.
Start from beautiful borders town of Peebles by crossing River Tweed by pedestrian footbridge to join the Cross Borders Drove Road before turning to Haystoun for first climb of day to Dead Side. We walk to Hundleshope Heights, 2,248 ft/685m, Glenrath Heights, Stake Law, Birkscairn Hill and Birks Hill before descending once more to Droves Road where the two route split.
The shorter option return by Kailzie Hill on Droves Road for a total ascent of 2,943 feet/897m.
The long route continues Drove Road in opposite direction to connect with Southern Upland Way then Traquair Village Hall, to get your breath back before ascending Lee Pen 1,647 feet,502m, Mill Ridge, Black Knowe, Black Law,1,765ft/538m, Leithen Door Hill and The Peeble Rig. Joining forest track for descent via Glentress Forest to return to Peebles giving 27.6 miles and total elevation gain of 5,643 ft,1,720m.
Course which will not be way marked though signs may be places at tricky junctions.
Hot food and refreshments for all participants at finish in Peebles. Runners may have to hold at checkpoints until they open.
Open to Over 18's or 16-18 if accompanied by a guardian.
