Starting and finishing at Plumpton College and crossing some of the finest countryside in the South Downs National Park the route visits Offham, Lewes, Glynde, Firle, Alfriston, East Dean, Litlington, Rodmell and Falmer.
7 checkpoints on route all with food and drink provided, a light meal mid-event and a hearty breakfast at the finish, all with vegetarian options.

Changing rooms, showers and sleeping facilities (sports hall) available at the finish. Luggage may be left at the hall at your own risk.
Parking: Free parking is available at the college from 08:30
Registration: from 09:00
Start: Staggered start from 10:00 to 11:30, all to finish by 09:00 am.
First start 10:00 for only walkers. Est. Speed of 3.5mph Av or less
Second Start 10:30 For Fast walkers and those that combine both walking and running. Est. Speed of 4.5mph Av or less
Third Start 11:00 for those that only run or run the majority of the time. Est Speed of 6mph Av or less
If in doubt please choose a later start to avoid the possibility of arriving before checkpoints open and being required to wait.
Route Description
LDWA Challenge events do not sign post the route as navigation is part of the challenge but a full route description in doc and pdf format and a GPX* file will be emailed and made available on our website a few days before the event. An outline map will also be made available on our website.
*A GPX file is provided as support only. The route description remains the definitive guide for the route.
Results will be on the LDWA website shortly after the event.
THE RULES.
This event is open to walkers and runners who must be over the 18 years of age on the day of the event.
Membership of the LDWA is not required.
No entries on the day.
A Mug and Torch/Headtorch are required to be carried on the event.
All 7 checkpoints en-route have to be visited in the correct order as indicated in the route description.
The opening and closing times of the checkpoints must be strictly adhered to. Not doing so may lead to entrant disqualification
To qualify for a certificate entrants must pass through all the checkpoints within the time limits and finish by 0900 on 23/8/2026.
Retirements must be made at checkpoints. If a retiree is unable to reach a checkpoint they should pass their tally to another entrant, who will notify the next checkpoint. Alternatively, the emergency phone number provided should be used.
The checkpoint marshals will have the right to retire any entrant who they consider is unfit to continue. Transport to Plumpton College will be provided for retirees.
Maps to cover the whole route (OS Landranger 198 &199/Explorer OL11 & OL25) should be carried in paper or electronic form.
A full route description will be available before the event. It must be carried by each entrant even if walking in a group in paper or digital format. If electronic, ensure you have enough power for the whole event. Failure to carry a route description may mean that (a) you are not covered by the LDWA Public Liability Insurance and (b) that you will be disqualified.
Dogs - Sorry but no dogs except assistance dogs with pre-approval are allowed on this event
Notes
The weather on the South Downs can change quickly so dress accordingly.
