Inverness Orienteering Club welcomes you to Evanton Community Woods for a festive SCORE orienteering event.

Terrain / Planner’s Comments: 

The maps will be 1:5000 with contours shown at 5m intervals.

Course 1 and 2 maps will be available at the Start.  The Yellow map is to be collected from the hall.

Courses 1 and 2 are SCORE courses which means that you can visit the controls in any order.  Your aim is to get the highest number of points.  Each control has a number of points listed beside it.  The controls that are furthest away or in the hardest locations will give you the highest score.  However, for every minute that you are late back you will lose 10 points on Green (Course 1) and 5 points on Orange (Course 2) so don’t be late back, it just isn’t worth it!

There is a deep gorge in Evanton Woods – the contols are not located near this and please stay away from it.

Parking: Parking is on residential streets, Chapel Road or Hermitage Street should have ample space - please park considerately and remember these events rely on the goodwill of the local community.

Pre-entry Information: Please pre-enter here. Closing date: Sunday 30th November at 23:59hrs.  Very limited EOD will be available.  Pre-enter to guarantee a map.  

Event timing:  SI punching will be used, with SI Air enabled. SI timing chips will be available to hire for £1, with a limited number of SIAC Air for hire for £3

 

Safety:

• Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety at all times. 

• Evanton Community Wood is popular with mountain bikers, dog walkers and local families using the various parts of the woodland and play areas; please show courtesy to all and provide space when you pass. 

• There is a deep gorge in Evanton Woods – the contols are not located near this and please stay away from it.

• Please carry appropriate clothing if bad weather. Full leg cover is required. Please carry a whistle (or phone) in case of emergency.  In the event of very bad weather, competitors may be required to wear a cagoule.

• Remember to check carefully for ticks after the event

• Any competitor with a high-risk medical condition, please contact the organiser either in advance (email below) or on the day at enquiries.

• First Aid cover is being provided by qualified members of INVOC. The first aid kit will be at the hall. 

• Courses close at 12:30. It is essential that you report to download after your run (even if you do not complete your course) so we know you are back safely!
