August 2026 gives us one of the best solar eclipse viewing opportunities in the UK for years. With 90% coverage of the sun, the effect will be very apparent. With sunset soon after the end of the eclipse there will be a prolonged twilight adding a special atmosphere to this rare event. From our hilltop vantage point, your guide will serve a tasty buffet of savoury and dessert treats, accompanied by refreshing sundowners and hot drinks. Join us for a wonderful celebration of this celestial display.
ITINERARY - Wednesday 12th August 2026
16:15 Meet at Bowden Bridge
16:30 Begin walk
18:17 Start of solar eclipse. Hilltop buffet, treats and drinks served by your guide.
19:13 Maximum with 90% of the sun obscured
20:06 End of eclipse & more exploring
20:34 Sunset
22:00 (approx) arrive back at Bowden Bridge
REFRESHMENTS
Items will include a selection of savouries (both vegetarian and meat), dessert treats, refreshing sundowners, freshly pressed coffee, hot chocolate and tea. Items may not be suitable for participants who follow more restricted diets such as vegan or have specific requirements. While packaged and prepared with care, we cannot guarantee that food is free from nuts, dairy, wheat, soy, shellfish or other allergens. If participants are in any doubt, we recommend bringing your own suitable food items. We fully support the Peak District PSPO in wildfire prevention. Hence all our hot drinks on the hill are provided from flasks

WHAT TO BRING
We'll provide CE Certified Solar viewing eye protection purchased from a reputable supplier - Participants should not look directly at the sun, at any time during the partial eclipse
Sufficient for a day on the hill in varied summertime conditions.
Worn or in your carried rucksack…
- Waterproof jacket (with hood)
- Warm layer (worn and spare) eg long sleeve fleece or primaloft
- Wicking base layer (not cotton)
- Hat & gloves
- Walking boots (broken in) or trail shoes with good grip.
- Water bottles or bladder min 1 litre
- Personal first aid, blister kit, medications
- Whistle
- Mobile phone (fully charged)
Optional
- Walking poles
- Sun cream, sun glasses, sun hat, buff
- Sit mat or light blanket square for your comfort
Please note: You must begin the walk with water and personal snacks sufficient for the start to brunch

Ranger Expeditions’ Kinder Scout Afternoon Tea On The Hill is a guided walk with a maximum of 8 guests to enjoy all the tranquility of the walk and a quality experience. Complimentary photos of your day with us are made available to download via our social media platform. If you do not want your photograph to be taken please let us know on the day so we can respect your wishes. We love our four-legged friends. But for practical reasons, we’re sorry dogs are not permitted on this picnic walk.
