Sandringham Royal Park is a mixed deciduous/conifer/rhododendron woodland with variable runnability. The north/west part the map has an escarpment with areas of good contour detail and fewer paths. Undergrowth is variable; it includes last year’s bracken which is dying down, mature and young rhododendrons and some bramble patches. There is ongoing forestry work in places and some timber stacks which should not be climbed.
Full leg cover will be required.
Map updated autumn/winter 2025
Map scale will be 1:10,000 for Brown and Blue courses and 1:7500 for all other courses with 5m contour interval. Course maps will be slightly larger than A4 and will be printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions will be text for white and yellow and IOF symbols for all other courses. Loose descriptions will be available in the start lanes.

Punching Start & Finish. Other controls are enabled for contactless SIAC use. Should the control not respond to a contactless ‘punch’ it is the competitor’s responsibility to undertake a manual ‘punch’.
Road Crossing
White to Short Green courses cross no public roads. Green, Blue and Brown courses cross one public road twice. Road traffic is relatively light and the sight lines near the crossing point are good. The mandatory crossing point will be marked on the maps and with tapes on the ground. There will be a timed-out leg between control sites on each side of the road so that competitors can take their time to cross safely. M16 and W16 juniors may enter Blue and Green courses but should take care when near the road crossing. The road will be marked on maps as Out of Bounds and no competitors may run along it.
