Info: Entries for this event open on Tuesday 11th November 2025.
Entry Fee | £27.00 |
Covering 34 km and 825m of ascent the course takes in the villages of Grindleford, Froggatt, Eyam, Great Longstone, Edensor and Baslow linking them together with paths, tracks and open moorland. Famous landmarks on the way round include the Riley Graves, Longstone Moor, The Monsal Trail and of course the stunning Chatsworth Park estate. The final high-level section along Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt edges offers breath-taking views of the surrounding Peak District.
The race raises money for the wonderful Grindleford Primary School and is run entirely by volunteers. It's known for being a friendly event with a good selection of cake!
Race Start Times
Mass start for main runners at 10am.
After feedback from previous years, we are going to trial optional flexible early start times for anyone expecting to take over 4 hours. However, we can't ask volunteers to stand on checkpoints for an extra 2+ hours, especially as there are children from the school helping at a lot of them. Please consider your start time carefully and ensure you don't reach checkpoints before they are open. From extensive number crunching of previous results, here is some guidance:
Estimated Finish Time | Earliest Start Time | Pace Option |
<4 hours | 10am | Mass Start (10am) |
4 - 5 hours | 9am | Mid Pace Start (8.30-9.30am) |
5 - 6.5 hours | 8.30am | Mid Pace Start (8.30-9.30am) |
6.5 - 8 hours | 8am | Relaxed Start (7.30-8.30am) |
>8 hours | 7.30am | Relaxed Start (7.30-8.30am) |
If you are at the faster end of a bracket, please start later in the available time slot.
With the exception of V70, prizes will only be allocated from those starting in the mass start at 10am.
Route
The route is marshalled at important interchanges and most of the control points are manned. Elsewhere the route is only partially marked. There are sections of the course that we are not allowed to mark up due to landowner wishes. While the event does not require specialised navigation skills you should make yourself familiar with the course and carry a map so that you know where you are going. We have no issue with people using GPS devices/a route map on your watch as it's not designed as a navigational challenge.
Importantly the route is a fixed course not the shortest route between the controls. That means no short cuts allowed!

Refunds/Transfers/Deferrals
This is a volunteer run event and we want to be very clear about our terms and conditions before people sign up as it causes a lot of extra communication every year when we have busy working and family lives and are trying to organise the race in our spare time.
We understand that people get injured or ill and circumstances change, but the event has a lot of costs to cover to be able to run, and this is primarily a fundraising event for the school so we need to raise enough money to make it worth all the effort!
Although we often sell out incredibly quickly, we always have far fewer people on the start line even when spaces have been cancelled in good time and become available for entry, which is why the cut off for refunds is set to 2 months before the event, and the refund amount is 50%. Any closer to the date or any more of a refund and we'd have to increase the price to cover this. The majority of the money raised goes to Grindleford Primary School, with the remaining amount given in donations to the Pre School, Mountain Rescue, National Trust and Peak District National Park.
We do not allow transfers because in previous years we have had issues with people racing with incorrect contact details or emergency contact details.
We do not do deferrals with one exception - if you have become pregnant since entering the race and are unable to take part, please get in touch.
We do not have a waiting list because last year the majority of people on the waiting list did not want the place that was offered to them when it became available, so places will be available to enter to anyone as and when people cancel.
Please do not get in touch and ask us to bend these rules, it makes for an awkward communication while we try and find the nicest way to reply whilst having to say no. We've all had to miss races for a wide variety of reasons and it makes it unfair if we don't treat everyone the same.
