"The Trans-Pennine Run"
Introduction
Get ready for a true adventure! The 2026 Trans-Pennine Run (LLCR) is a 130-mile non-stop race along the beautiful Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath—from Old Hall Street in Liverpool to Office Lock in Leeds.
Open to anyone aged 20 or over, the race follows UK Athletics rules and runs with the permission of the Canal & River Trust. We recommend runners bring their own support crew, but we also offer support for up to 75 Unsupported runners through the organisers, Canalrace C.I.C.
This route blends the rich history of the “Industrial North” with surprisingly scenic stretches. You’ll pass iconic spots like the mile-long Burnley Embankment, towering 60 feet above ground, and the amazing Bingley Five Rise staircase—two of the “Seven Wonders of the Waterways.”
What to Expect

Easy navigation: Follow the canal and detailed maps.

Regular snacks & drinks: Feed points every 10–15 miles.

Help if needed: Transport to the nearest station if you have to retire.

Generous time limit: 40 hours to complete the race.

All levels welcome: Many finishers have only run marathons before.

Thanks for your interest in the 2026 LLCR! Your entry is confirmed after payment on SiEntries and completing the questionnaire. The organiser may refuse entry without giving a reason.

The race offers minimum support but feed points for Unsupported runners. Drinks are available to all at these stops.

There is no medical backup on course, but transport is provided for retirees who are Unsupported.

Support crews are welcome along the entire route. Solo buddy runners (not pacers) can join from 70 miles onwards.

You must finish within 40 hours (by 10 PM Sunday).

Entry is limited to 100 runners, first come, first served—no lottery.

Unsupported places are capped at 75. If you want one, enter as Supported first, then contact the organiser. A waitlist runs on a one-in, one-out basis.
