The 34th Durham Dales Challenge

A challenge event for walkers and runners in the Durham Moors and Dales. As usual there will be a choice of routes, 30 and 14 miles.
- The 30 mile route goes to Middleton in Teesdale via Hamsterley Forest and returns via Hudeshope Beck, Bollihope and River Wear.
- The 14 mile route traverses Pikestone Fell and returns via Bollihope and River Wear.
Start Times: 8:30am for everyone. Both walkers and runners on both routes.
Time limits: The 30 mile route must be completed in 12.5 hours, in addition to this there is a cut-off time of 3pm by which entrants must have left the Middleton-in-Teesdale checkpoint. The 14 mile route must be completed in 9 hours.
Refreshments: Tea and toast will be available at the start. Appropriate refreshments will be available at all checkpoints. A hot meal will be served at the end; there will be options for those who eat meat, vegetarians and vegans.
Route description: A full route description and a gpx file of the route will be available on the website prior to the event.
Venue: Masonic Hall, Wolsingham DL13 3AN
Parking: To be advised ahead of the event.
General Notes:
- We regret no dogs allowed due to nesting birds on the moors.
- All participants should wear or carry whole body waterproof clothing and be appropriately dressed for walking or running in open moorland.
- You must have with you a suitable map e.g OS Explorer Map OL 31 (Electronic versions are acceptable) and a copy of the route description or a GPS navigation device with the route uploaded
- No entries after the closing date, Saturday 13th June 2026 or on the day of the event.
A significant donation is made to Teesdale & Weardale Search & Rescue Team.
